This piece is brought to you by Fetch but all of the words and stories are mine.
My little boy has only been in Prep for a total of like ten weeks, and prior to that I had the kid a lot, so I’m baffled why filling in the time from 3.30pm- 7.30pm and the weekends often feels so torturous. I was hoping school would really tire him out and that his little brain would be so filled to the brim that he would become this blissfully chilled out cat, but he ain’t. It has worked in reverse, the boy wants – actually NEEDS – to be entertained for what feels like 24/7.
I love spending time with my boys, I truly do, but there are only so many Ninja Turtles a girl can draw and only so many park visits one can stomach. Sometimes mamma needs a break and sometimes little boys just need to chilllll.
One of the only things that gets my very active five year old to sit still for longer than .2 of a second is a little something called Fetch. I was a newbie to Fetch but now I’m a full blown addict. Fetch has all your entertainment in one place, which is ace for people like me who get overwhelmed with too many remotes. There is something for the whole family and you can rent and buy all the latest flicks (over 6,000 of them) and TV shows which is bloody ace. My boys lap up the Kids package which has channels like Disney Junior and Nickelodeon. I’m all over Vibe package which has my faves like MTV and E! These packages are only $6 a month so no bank is broken either.
We have been doing a lot of weekend ‘movie parties’ at my joint which is a jazzed up way to say sitting on the couch and watching flicks. Trolls, Secret Life Of Pets and Finding Dory have had their fair run, but the two movies on repeat at the moment are Sing and Moana. Have you seen them? Man, it’s refreshing when your kids request to watch something that doesn’t make you want to tear your eyeballs out. These movies are very watchable as an adult too and I must say even after the seventh watch, I am still going strong.
So, Sing is about an optimistic quirky Koala called Buster Moon who runs a theatre that has fallen on hard times. Buster puts on the world’s greatest singing comp to try and save his theatre but offers $100,000 as prize money when the bear is stone cold broke. This movie is chock full of ace music and celeb voices like Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth Macfarlane, Scarlett Johnasson, John C Reilly and loads more.
Moana is the other movie getting a run on repeat and this movie is BEWDIFUL. All about an adventurous and brave teenage girl who sails out on a daring mission to save her people. While on her adventure Moana meets a demi-god called Maui (who is voiced by Dwayne The Rock Johnson), who guides her quests to become a master way-finder. It’s an action packed, girl kick-arse kinda film that I LOVE my boys watching.
Have just put my mini men to bed and bout to rent La La Land, so must fly.
