One in four people suffer from anxiety. Of those statistics, one in five are men and one in three are women. That’s A LOT of nervous tension in the air.
If, like me, you’re one of the ‘one-ins’, it helps to have some tools on hand to help you out when those overwhelming feelings of panic/stress/terror/ creep up on you or when you know you’re entering a situation that might trigger you.
My triggers often have to do with feeling overwhelmed and out-of-control, sometimes by the big things and sometimes by nothing at all. You know, just for kicks.
Anxiety and panic attacks look and feel different for everyone. For me, it starts with a tightening in my chest and the feeling that my throat is closing up. My heart beats so fast that I honestly feel like it’s going to come out of my chest and then I get hit with the breathlessness – and feeling like you can’t get a big enough gulp of air to feed your lungs is an awful feeling. It can turn very scary, very quickly.
Mindful breathing is so important and the ability to have something to focus on when you’re in the throes of an anxiety-induced meltdown can definitely help.
I find this video really helpful when things feel like they’re getting too much and my brain is getting too filled up with crap that is beyond my control.
Even if you don’t suffer from anxiety, this video serves as a helpful tool during times when you just need a little clarity and to CALM. YOUR. MIND.
