Have you heard of TUBING MASCARA?

Mascara is my desert island product. Seriously, I must have missed the memo when the long, dark, luscious lashes were being dished out because I got duped BIG TIME. Without mascara, my lashes are virtually undetectable; they’re so light that you can barely see them and I look like a totally different, much smaller-eyed person without it.

I’ve used so many incredible mascaras over the years that make my lashes look full and thick, but they always end up smudging or flaking under my eyes so by around 6pm I’ve got a bit of an Alice Cooper vibe going on. Add heat, humidity, exercise or a hayfevery eye day to the mix and I go from glam to goth in a heartbeat. So much of my confidence rides on that thin, plastic tube and I am always on the hunt for the perfect one.

After MUCH research (like every day for about 25 years) – I have found THE ONE. Actually, it’s more about a particular formula that has stolen my heart rather than a specific brand, but it has changed my life. It’s called tubing (or tubular) mascara and it is something that every mascara-loving woman needs to get her hands on ASAP.

Here’s the lowdown:

- Tubing mascara doesn’t just coat your lashes in pigment like traditional mascara, it actually forms little polymer tubes around each lash, sorta encasing the lashes in their own little sleeping bag if that makes sense.

It just peels off like freakin' MAGIC!

It just peels off like freakin’ MAGIC!

- Once you’ve applied your tubing mascara, it DOES. NOT. MOVE. Like, through torrential rain, The Notebook, five hours on the treadmill, swimming the English channel and 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep (LOL – that last one is an urban legend) – it stays put. It doesn’t flake, it doesn’t smudge, it just stays on those lashes where it belongs. Genius, I know.

- Apply exactly as you would your regular mascara. If you’re into more of a full lash (who isn’t?) you can build tubing mascara up with extra coats just as you would with any mascara. Tip: Get that wand in as close to your lash line as possible and wiggle it from root to end. Do this a couple of times for maximum effect.

- The wonder of tubing mascara’s staying power is only matched by its removal – no eye make up remover or scrubbing required. Simply get some warm water on your peepers and gently pull the little fibres off and you’re done. I do mine in the shower and it’s seriously like Christmas morning erryday, cos pulling them off is almost as satisfying as removing a three month old ingrown hair. Heaven.

More and more brands are adding tubular formulas to their range, but the one I’m currently using is ModelCo’s Lash XTend. It’s a beauty.
