I’m dreading school holidays. They seem to sneak up on me and I get a ping of anxiety worrying about how I’m going to occupy my kids. I sincerely have NO IDEA how I managed to keep my eldest son, Raff, occupied all those years before he went to school. I can barely keep the kid entertained on the weekends let alone weeks on end.
If the kid is stuck in the house (without an iPad) for longer than 5 minutes he’s looking at me like he’s lost in the wilderness. I’m painfully aware that I’m just not going to cut it as a substitute for his schoolmates.
We’ve decided to start a list of activities for every school holidays – one outdoor activity a day – just so we have a plan and he can be excited about his days, ohhh, and to keep his head out of the iPad.
On our bucket list these holidays is a trip to Sydney and more importantly, a day at Scenic World. If you live in Sydney, you’re crazy lucky to have this gem sitting 90 minutes away in the beautiful Blue Mountains . This place will blow my kids tiny minds (and yours too!).
Having three boys (all under 6), it’s safe to say anything related to movement, trains, biking, wildlife spotting and mountains that look like Dinosaurs once hung out there…is a win in our book.
Scenic World literally has it all; Skyway, Walkway, Cableway, and Railway…The Scenic Railway; the steepest passenger railway in the world, the Scenic Cableway; the steepest and largest aerial cable car in the Southern Hemisphere –and the Scenic Walkway; the longest boardwalk in Australia.
And…the best part is that it can give us parents some tranquil moments too. The view is off the charts as it’s placed on the edge of a sandstone escarpment with uninterrupted views of The Three Sisters and the sprawling Jamison Valley.
And the best part, your kids will be so knackered by the end of it that they will be SILENT! Just imagine.
This coming school holidays (less than 3 weeks – eeckkk) there is a Take Flight interactive bird show set among the ancient rainforest of Jamison Valley. It’s free with your Scenic World ticket and AWESOME! Spaces are limited so make sure you book in when you buy your ticket online.
So this is my hot tip these hols. Now I’m trying to mentally prepare myself for the other days and activities that my kids will demand we do.
*Scenic World is open every day of the year from 9am-5pm. Visit www.scenicworld.com.au to book your ticket today. Family pass includes 2 adults and up to 5 children. Pack a picnic lunch to relax at Wentworth Falls Lake (there’s a playground there too)…and BAM…best value for money and AWESOME experience for the whole fam.
