As women, we are notoriously quick at judging and comparing our bodies to that of other people’s. Far too many women struggle with accepting what they were born with. It’s the nature of our society that women always expect more of themselves even when they’re already perfect.
Everyone has a story to tell when it comes to their bodies, some more open than others and some with a much deeper struggle than others. It’s sad how often you hear women say they ‘finally’ loved their bodies after a tragedy, an illness or simply by getting older – it’s rare you hear a woman say from a very young age that they love their body and accept it for what it truly is.
When our friend Olivia White from House Of White released this incredible video it struck a cord. A good cord. There are nine women in the video that talk candidly about their feelings towards their body and why they feel that way. It’s gut wrenching, raw and beautiful all at the same time.
If it’s one thing this video proves – we are more than our bodies, our bodies are our vehicles to be able to do everything we set our minds to. Yes, they are all different but who would want them all to look the same? I certainly wouldn’t. Each body has a function – it holds all the really important things that makes you who you really are.
Like Olivia says so perfectly, ‘ Love yourself for who you are. Stop being your biggest critic, and become your biggest fan! Remember that you are amazing, you are unique and your story matters.’
Olivia – well done you!
