Lately, I’ve really felt age creeping up on me, like I’ve gone from young to old in the blink of an eye. At 36 years old, there are things on my radar that I never really gave much thought to – things like breast cancer; a disease that I didn’t think targeted people in my ‘age bracket.’ But the thing is, we ALL need to be diligent with checking our boobs and now, I’m making a conscious effort to check them regularly.
We all know that no one is exempt from cancer. It doesn’t discriminate; young, old, healthy, unhealthy – it doesn’t care. It’s hard to know what exactly to look for, especially when you look and feel the same as you always have. When I stumbled upon this photo shared by Sherrie Rhodes, 37, of East Yorkshire in England I thought, EVERY woman needs to see this.
Sherrie is a young mum of three gorgeous kids and one day she noticed her breast had a dimple in it. She had read that a dimple can be a sign of cancer, so she went to the docs to get it checked. She felt confident it was nothing, as she felt her ‘normal’ self. But soon, she realised by the reaction of doctors and the results of her tests that she had breast cancer. She shared the image below to encourage women to check their breasts and to show that although she had no other symptoms, sometimes a dimple is all it takes.
“Yesterday I was diagnosed with breast cancer,” she wrote alongside an image of her dimpled breast on Facebook.
“It came as a total shock as this…is the only symptom I had.”
Sherrie also said, “Please check your breasts regularly and don’t ignore anything that is different. If I hadn’t seen a post like this previously I wouldn’t have known that this dimpling was a sign of cancer.”
Please pass this on so every woman you know, it may save a lot of lives.
