Oh lord, grab yourself a tissue and get ready for all the feelings. This is a story of true, never-ending love that has left our whole team in tears today.
Bailey Sellers just turned 21 years old, a massive milestone in any woman’s life. On her birthday, Bailey received a bunch of flowers and a note from her dad, which isn’t an uncommon occurrence, except that Bailey’s dad passed away from cancer five years ago.
Posting a pic of the flowers, the note and a childhood snap of her and her dad to Twitter, Bailey wrote: “My dad passed away when I was 16 from cancer and before he died he prepaid flowers so I could receive them every year on my birthday.
On her birthday, Bailey received a bunch of flowers and a note from her dad, which isn’t an uncommon occurrence, except that Bailey’s dad passed away from cancer five years ago.
“Well this is my 21st birthday flowers and the last. Miss you so much daddy.”
And the note that accompanied the flowers? Here are the words Bailey’s dad wanted to leave with her on her special day…
“Bailey, this is my last love letter to you until we meet again.
“I do not want you to shed another tear for me my baby girl, for I am in a better place.
“You are and will always be the most precious jewel I was given.
“It is your 21st birthday and I want you to always respect your momma and stay true to yourself.
“Be happy and live life to the fullest.
“I will still be with you through every milestone, just look around and there I will be.
“I love you Boo Boo and happy birthday!!!! Daddy”
I’ve written before about losing my own dad to cancer and this story has left me weeping all morning. I tried to read it out to my husband three times and was crying a few words in and couldn’t finish. For so many of us who have lost loved ones, every special moment in your life is coupled with sadness because that person isn’t there, but the sadness only comes from the immense love you feel for them.
This story is just a testament to the true love between a dad and his daughter, one of the most special relationships in life. And even though this is Bailey’s last tangible message from her dad, what a beautiful reminder that he is always around her. What a special guy.
