Today, I am inviting you inside my home…the special place that I share with my hub and two boys. To say I am a home body would be a real understatement so when we purchased this house eight years ago I endeavoured to make it as special as our bank account could afford. It has become painfully annoying to note that I believe my taste changes every five years, and by this I mean I could literally throw everything out and start again. But who can actually do that? I figure your home is an extension of you and an accumulation of the beautiful things that happen in your life, so, consider me collecting…forever!
When we purchased this Edwardian style home built in the 50s it needed a little love but not a ton, just a little update. It already had an extension out the back that managed to tastefully keep the style of the home (and the back of the house is now the wall of my kitchen – which is amazing). Two years ago I pestered my builder bro (who is way too clever for words) to update my kitchen, add an ensuite, jazz up the front of the house and many more things…and this is what we came up with (well mostly he came up with it but I’ll take the credit, he’ll never know!).
I’m a real sucker for period homes, especially ones that need a little TLC (through small changes, not big ones…I don’t want to get my hands dirty!). Modern really isn’t my gig, but I certainly wouldn’t say I have a style. The best advice I have been given is, “buy the things you love and you will find a place for them”…so this is my motto, and it’s true. I always find a home for the things I love.
Have a little goosey gander…
