We are SO thrilled to share with you our latest interview for our new video and podcast series…The Change Up brought to you by TOM Organic.
We have been working with TOM Organic to find out what inspires a person to make a change? To choose a different path? To fight the status quo? To try and beat the odds? We asked a group of inspiring, creative visionaries about their “Change Up” — in their careers, personal lives, health, communities, or the world around them.
This week, we bring you an insightful and inspiring chat with Indigenous TV and radio presenter, Leila Gurruwiwi, who you’ll probably recognise as one of the co-hosts of SBS’s The Marngrook Footy Show. Leila left her community at 18 months old to grow up in the most Anglo-Saxon community in Australia. She tells us why it’s so important to shift the white-washed historical narrative in Australia, and what it felt like to grow up not seeing anyone that looked like her on television. Leila explains to us the beautiful way indigenous communities use kinship to connect, and how her fiancé was adopted into her family.
Leila is very clear about her love for AFL and how important the AFL women’s league is in changing history. We love that Leila is helping make that change for her community, women and AFL. This is one amazing woman you need to get to know more about.
