When it comes to music, I’m a total rock tragic; give me Guns N’ Roses over the new stuff any day of the week. I’d be lying, though, if I said I wasn’t digging Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson’s latest collab, Nothing Breaks Like a Heart, BIG TIME. It’s got a cool disco vibe with a slight country, Dolly Parton Jolene-style twang that is catchy AF, but it’s the video that has everyone talking – ‘cos Miley gets hella political.
There’s an OJ Simpson-style car chase that has Miley driving through a strip club filled with priests (maybe a thought-starter on the hypocrisy of religion?), past nuns lined up on the streets and football players kneeling by the side of the road; a nod to Colin Kaepernick’s ‘Take a Knee’ controversy.
There’s also scenes of kids playing with bullets and shooting guns, a defiant look at her g-string clad bum and a crowd of people fighting over goods, which is possibly a look at our consumerism-obsessed society. One of the cop cars also has a Miley Wrecking Ball air freshener during the car chase too.
It all ends in a car crash where Miley and Mark Ronson emerge unscathed, walking towards the chasing crowd. The final shot is Miley standing with her arms outstretched (crucifixion style) on a block of cinders, just like the ones she smashed in her Wrecking Ball clip. I have seriously watched this clip so many times, because every time I watch it, I see something different that gets me thinking and to me, THAT is the sign of an awesome clip.
The song, the vid, it’s all so great and definitely worth a watch, even if you’re not a Miley fan. Check it out and let us know what you think on our Facey page…
