If you’ve managed to have a conversation with another human being over the last few weeks without hearing the words Normal People, you’re a rare find.
The STAN series, based on Sally Rooney’s 2018 book of the same name, centres around the complicated love story of Marianne and Connell. Their hidden relationship begins as teenagers in high school and continues to unfold, with its many highs and lows, until the end of their university days… and to say people are loving every second of it is understatement city.
The thing is, it’s not just Marianne and Connell we’re all obsessed with. It’s the memories they invoke about our own past relationships, especially in those tricky adolescent years. It’s Connell’s Chain, which has its own Insta page with a 129K-strong following. Above all though, it’s the insane chemistry between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, the actors who play Marianne and Connell.
On a recent appearance on The Late Late Show, James Corden challenged Daisy and Paul to a live chem test, where they had to re-enact some of the least sexy scenes from TV (think pickled celery and tracksuit pants) while maintaining that unmistakable, steamy M+C vibe.
You won’t believe how easily they become Marianne and Connell again…
Pass the celery, crab and trackies over. We want in.
