Only a few hours ago Delta took to Instagram to share a video about the confronting and gut-wrenching account of the true meaning behind her new song, ‘Paralyzed’. It seems like a typical beautiful song we’ve come to know and love from Delta: always intentional and with clever storytelling sprinkled with the usual bang of emotion. The true meaning, however, was anything but a typical.
Delta told the story behind her hiatus from singing and what she had been doing with her time since she had surgery in October 2018. Delta tells the story of waking up from salivary gland removal surgery to discover that she had lost a huge portion of her speech courtesy of a paralysed nerve in her tongue. She shows raw footage of how embarrassed and uncomfortable she was when it came to leaving her house, the gruelling rehabilitation and how scary it was knowing the reality that when a nerve is damaged, there is no predicting when, or if it may ever recover.
I’m not going to lie, watching the video is real, raw and at times super sad. But in her true style, Delta herself labeled this a ‘rebirth’ and we are all witnessing the magnificence of that very confronting period of her life.
Delta’s intention behind the vid was to show what perseverance, resilience, hope, faith, and sheer hard work can actually do to heighten perspective and bring happiness into our lives and the people around us.
Delta, you’re a bloody national treasure. Thanks for sharing.

As a songwriter, I write songs from my own experiences. I tell stories about the path I have been on, wondering if anyone else has been on a similar journey. The first step in writing this new record was a personal transformation that I didn’t know I needed in my life! Even though, as I am sharing today, it was a challenging one – I learned so much and I’m so grateful to be here healthy, happy and singing away 🙂 ⠀ ⠀ I share this with you as an artist sharing where the poetry in this song comes from and as a human who deeply feels and understands that everyone has their own story and their own challenges they are overcoming each day. You never know what someone is going through and this is an extremely hard time for people. So I send this story to you with the message of hope and love. Getting through the tough times is hard, but “with a little time and a little hope, with a little light you never know. For a little space, for a lot of love, close your eyes and think of a better time, big dreams; open your mind for you to find a little strength inside. Stop and rewind”. ⠀ ⠀ Love & Light, Delta Xx
