The deleted sex scene from Dirty Dancing we had NO idea existed

I was eight years old when Dirty Dancing came out 32 years ago in 1987. My mum took my sister and I to the movies to see it and I reckon after that first viewing we might have gone back at least three more times to see it on the big screen. Even as a little kid who wasn’t entirely sure what those grown-ups rubbing up against each other to very excellent music meant, I knew it was something a bit racy. A bit sexy. I also knew that one day, I wanted to get myself my own Johnny. Ah, Patrick Swayze. What a babe.

I still reckon I watch that movie once a year, every year and quite frankly, that half-naked dance between Baby and Johnny in his cabin to Solomon Burke’s Cry To Me gives me the horn every single time. I wouldn’t even technically call it a sex scene, but all that eye contact and slow dancing is sensual AF and you just can’t imagine it any other way.

That is, until I stumbled across a deleted scene that I had NO idea existed – and I honestly thought I knew everything there was to know about DD. It’s Baby and Johnny 2.0 – and, well, you can make up your own mind about it…

Here’s another clip, with the OG lead-in and the bump and grind deleted bit starting from 1.46…

I’d be lying if I said I haven’t watched this scene a real 45 times since discovering it and marvelled at the intense dry rooting action between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. I mean, I almost feel like this wouldn’t have hurt my eyes as much if they had their clothes OFF. It just sits in that weird place, somewhere between teenage grinding and that sorta weird, unsatisfactory sex where neither of you can really find your groove. You know the kind I’m talking about.

Look, I’ll probably continue to watch this over and over again, mainly in appreciation of Patrick Swayze’s glorious hip action, but I’m also very happy they went with the version we know and love for the movie. That’s WAY sexier in my book.
