Is this the world’s cringiest proposal – or the best ever?

In case you missed it, the 70th Annual Emmy Awards just wrapped up in the U.S. There were lots of lovely awards given, professional work recognised and pretty dresses to ogle at, but the night really belonged to two people in a moment that has everyone losing their romantic minds.

If you’re a bit queasy when it comes to public declarations of love, then this might not float your boat. Monty and Stace both physically cringed while watching this, but I am here for it. In a time where awards ceremonies have been dominated by speeches that have focused on some pretty negative (but important) shiz like the #MeToo movement and the many Trump f-ups, this was nothing but a positive, loving moment between two people – and a few hundred celebs. And, you know, millions of viewers watching around the globe.

Here’s how it went down: Director Glenn Weiss was up at the podium accepting his award for Outstanding Direction in a Variety Special when he gave a shout-out to his partner, Jan Svendsen. “Jan, you are the sunshine in my life,” Glenn said. “And mum was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”

Cue loads of squealing, laughing, crying, Jan freaking out, applause and almost every celeb on their feet with their mouths agape. There was also this epic reaction from Leslie Jones…

And this face from Sterling K Brown..

Jan took the stage where Glenn got down on bended knee and officially asked her to marry him. The sweetest part, I think, is that Glenn’s mum passed away just two weeks ago and the ring he proposed with belonged to her. “Jan, I want to put this ring that my mum wore on your finger in front of all these people and in front of my mum and your parents watching from above. Will you marry me?”

Of course she said “yes.” Can you even imagine if she didn’t? Here it is…

It was just a really happy, spontaneous, joyous moment that’ll definitely go down in history as one of the best live TV moments ever. Ain’t love grand?

Rachael Finch told us all about her surprise marriage proposal in the vid from our On the Couch chat below…
