As someone who doesn’t care at all for country music, I’m mad for a bit of Dolly Parton. 9 to 5 was one of my fave movies as a kid and I was, and still am, fascinated by everything about her. Her voice is insanely good, she’s got some serious acting chops (Steel Magnolias) and she just seems like the most delightful woman who legitimately doesn’t give one single shit what anyone thinks of her.
A couple of days ago, Dolly was honoured as the MusiCares Person of the Year gala in LA. The shindig featured some big names performing some of her biggest hits: Katy Perry and Kacey Musgraves sang Here You Come Again and Shawn Mendes and Miley Cyrus took on Islands In The Stream and nailed it.
But there was not doubt that THE performance of the night belonged to two women: Pink and Jolene. Although the 1973 hit will always be Dolly’s, Pink gave it a modern spin with her powerhouse vocals that will leave your ears tingling with joy.
There just aren’t any words….
