Way back in 2017, we were teased with the news that Reese Witherspoon and Jen Aniston were gearing up to star in a new TV show all about the cut-throat world of morning television. We didn’t know many deets back then, but we knew one thing for sure – this was the best pairing known to man since peanut butter and jam.
And today, two years later, we were finally given the first official trailer of the long-awaited series, Morning Wars, and it looks epic! Here’s a brief run-down…
Jen Aniston plays Alex Levy, a presenter on a big-time morning TV show. Alex’s co-host of 15 years, Mitch Kessler (Steve Carrell), has been let go from the network following some serious allegations against him, and neither Mitch nor Alex are taking it well. In a bid to re-ignite the show, journalist Bradley Jackson (Reese Witherspoon) is brought in… and the sparks quickly fly. Alex is threatened by Bradley’s presence and skill, as well as struggling with her her own relevance as an ‘ageing’ woman in the media.
This looks like so much more than the story of Alex versus Bradley in the typical female catfight style we’re so used to seeing, but more about the role the men who call the shots at the network play in watching Alex go down – publicly… and her fight to take control of her career before they can destroy it.
Check out the trailer…
This is the first time Jennifer Aniston has starred in a TV series since Friends, (where Reese played her little sister) with both women serving as co-Executive Producers on Morning Wars.
No date has officially been confirmed yet, but we know the show has been locked in for a two season run on the Apple TV+ streaming service, which is expected to launch in Australia sometime this spring. So keep your eyes peeled!
