What happened to our imaginary 90’s BF, Drazic?

Fuck, YES!

Not only is the 90’s cult classic Aussie TV show Heartbreak High currently streaming on Netflix, word on the street is that we’re getting a REBOOT that’s slated to hit our screens in 2022. 2020 might have been a real shit fight, but gee whiz it’s also delivered a never ending stream of reboots/reunions… and we’re not mad about it.

All this news is making us reminisce hard about the characters we grew up loving in the show’s 1994-1999 run, as well as the ones we wished would just rack off. There was Con, Katerina, Jodie and Rivers, but our hearts were well and truly stolen in the ’97 season when one Bogdan Drazic joined Hartley High.

Drazic, AKA Callan Mulvey, was THE SHIT. The bad boy with the eyebrow ring of our late 90’s dreams. The one who was always getting up to mischief, smoking and skateboarding with a wardrobe of punk rock threads that got our adolescent juices flowing. So of course, we got thinking about what Callan’s been up to since he hung up Drazic’s skateboard and took out his eyebrow ring for good. Turns out, it’s a lot.

After leaving Heartbreak, Callan (who was actually born in NZ and moved to Oz when he was seven) went on to star in shows like BeastMaster, All Saints and Pizza before scoring a regular gig on Home and Away as Johnny Cooper from 2006 – 2008.  In 2008 he played underworld figure Mark Moran in the first Underbelly series and then went on to Rush, starring as regular Brendan ‘Josh’ Joshua for 70 eps from 2008 – 2011.

Home grown success is always great, but Callan really hit the jackpot in Hollywood starring in blockbusters such as 300: Rise of an Empire and Zero Dark Thirty, as well as two from the massive Marvel franchise, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame. He also starred in DC Comics’ Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Not baaaaaad.

Not too much is known about Callan’s life off-screen as he annoyingly values his privacy. Booooo! What we do know is that back in 2003, he was involved in a 100km/h head-on collision that saw him trapped in his car for over an hour while emergency services struggled to get him out. He lost sight in his left eye and had to endure some horrific sounding reconstructive surgery to essentially put his face back together.

Callan and his gorgeous wife Rachel on their wedding day

In nicer news, Callan, who is now 45, married teacher Rachel Taylor back in 2010 in Byron Bay and the pair share a son… and it appears they lived happily ever after.

In our minds though, he’ll forever remain our dark-haired, rebellious teen fantasy boyfriend. Drazic 4 Eva.

Ada Nicodemou sat down with Monty a little while back and they talked about Heartbreak days… and it was FAB. You can listen to the pod below and watch the vid series here. Don’t forget to subscribe to our pod here.
