Here at Show+Tell we are incredibly lucky to meet the most incredible, inspirational and down-right amazing women on a regular basis and this woman, Kristy Tull of Fox and Ramona, has all of those traits in spades. Kristy has a vibe about her that actually transcends into her amazing work – concrete planters, bowls and vases that are gorgeous, strong, unique and something everyone needs in their life. This is Kristy…a mother, sister, daughter, wife, friend and a woman in the throws of beating the shit out of breast cancer.
We write this piece to not only show you these products but to introduce you to a woman that will no doubt inspire you. I know Kristy and Fox and Ramona will be a part of Show+Tell a lot in the future, so consider this a small intro to the amazing things to come.
Tell us your background and how it came about that you created Fox and Ramona?
Fox & Ramona actually began as resin and polymer clay jewellery, turned into felt artwork and is now concrete home wares. Who would’ve thought! I’ve always just made stuff. If I couldn’t find what I wanted to buy or couldn’t afford to buy it, I made it.
Before making Fox & Ramona my full time job, I worked in architectural firms and studied Interior Design. Being exposed to such a creative environment definitely contributed to my love of designing and making. After I had my daughter, making Fox & Ramona my other full time job was an easy decision.
Your pots are beyond gorgeous? We absolutely LOVE them here at Show and Tell, tell us how you came up with the concrete idea?
Thank you! I stumbled across a terracotta pot painted to look like concrete in a junk shop – and in typical maker fashion thought ‘I could make that’, so I did. I love the simplicity of geometric shapes and a monochrome and metallic palette. Together with the raw, organic nature of concrete, I think the combination just works.
Have you always been arty farty and creative?
I’ve always loved interior design, original home wares, architecture, art and making stuff… so I guess you could say yes!
What’s up next for Fox and Ramona?
I have a new range of ‘White Wash’ concrete vessels launching shortly! Along with some exciting new stockists.
What is your fave Fox and Ramona product that we should all own?
The large planter bowl is my favourite… this week. But it’s not just for plants. It’s a great table centre piece for fruit or flowers too. Perhaps a name change is in order.
Our site is all about showing people things and telling them about it…Do you have something you can show us – it could be something near and dear to you, something that inspires you, something you could never live without…?
Something near and dear to me? Something I couldn’t live without? It’s totally cliché but I have to say my daughter, Pia. She’s the light of my life. When she first came into the world I wondered how the heck I’d be able to look after this little person and contemplated putting her back. Now I want to keep her forever and ever. And ever.
