Meet…Inga Rodd of Goosebumps + GIVEAWAY

Stacey by Stacey
February 2nd, 2015

Well, I have to say…yes…my babe’s room is decked out in Goosebumps bedding and I bloody love it. It was quite simply the best addition to the room and makes it wayyyy cooler than I could have done with styling alone. Inga Rodd of Goosebumps is creating bedlinen for kids that is just to die for. A massive splash of colour, character and playfulness that is SO needed in every kids room.

Inga started Goosebumps with a little inspiration from her twin boys, who are now 3-years-old…and like many of us out there, Inga is juggling a million things at once but also living her passion and dreams.  We are slightly obsessed and just can’t wait to see the next range so we can tell you about it all over again.

We had a little chinwag with Inga just so you know all about her and this fab little business called Goosebumps

AND we also have a an AWESOME giveaway for one of you lucky Show+Tellers to win…to ENTER go to our Instagram account @ShowAndTellOnline and share our artwork with the hashtag #goosebumpme. Winner announced tonight between 8-10pm.

Tell us about your background and how your idea for Goosebumps came to fruition?

My background is in retail, fashion and wholesale with the occasional stint in hospitality in my 20’s. Goosebumps has been in the pipeline for about 7 years which is about how long I’ve been wanting to start my own business. All my friends know me as the idea’s person and I love nothing more than getting fired up in work-shopping idea’s for a new concept or business idea. It took twin boys, Archie and Levi who are now three, and the desire to do something outside of nappies, bottles and sleepless nights to jump in head first in 2014 and launch Goosebumps.

Starting a business from home with two small children has certainly had it’s challenges but I suppose I’m no different to all the other mums out there doing exactly the same thing as me. I know this because I follow them on Instagram, some are friends and stockists and we all email and chat away once our kids are down with a glass of wine in hand when our second job begins. Most of my best work is done between 8-10pm. I always knew that I wanted to start my own business and that it had to be something creative that inspired me and that I could slowly turn into a fully-fledged business once the boys started school. A career that I’d created and one that allowed me the flexibility to work from home, manage my own hours, and be my own boss.

Tell us what inspired you to make kids bedding?

My boys inspire me and my general love of all things interiors, bedding, and homewares. My first collection It’s A Jungle Out There was in development for about a year before I decided to take the plunge. One of the challenges I faced before starting Goosebumps was simply believing that I had what it took and was capable of making it work. It takes an incredible amount of strength and determination to back yourself and your creative decisions.

I owe many thanks to the incredible support I had during these times from my husband, family and Julia Green from Greenhouse Interiors www.greenhouseinteriors.com.au who is my mentor and now friend. I call her my fairy Godmother as she keeps sprinkling her fairy dust all over me. You have to take a leap of faith. If you’ve got drive and a passion you should just go for it.

Your prints are to die, here at Show+Tell we have literally kitted our kiddies rooms out in Goosebumps, how do you come up with the prints? What is your inspiration?

That’s cool that you’ve got your kids rooms decked out in Goosebumps. My inspiration for my designs come from everywhere and everyday things such as music, fashion, film, art, interiors, travel and things I used to like as a little girl. A bit of a trip down memory lane as well…I also frequent cool websites and blogs such as Interiors Addict, Affordable Style Files, Anthropologie and The Design Files.

The inspiration for this collection It’s A Jungle Out There was my love of colour and what I felt was lacking in kids bedding along with the jungle and my love of leopard print. It must be the Russian in me! My design philosophy is to produce vibrant, colourful bed linen for the coolest tigers in town! Goosebumps hopes to inject a certain playfulness and unexpected designs that deliver a punch. Colour and the fact that all Goosebumps products are sold separately was an integral part of my design process. I wanted to deliver unique pieces that parents and kids could mix and match to create a fun bedroom experience allowing kids to express their own style, individuality and personality.

This first collection was shot by the incredible James Geer www.jamesgeer.com.au and the super stylist Aimee Tarulli from Greenhouse Interiors www.greenhouseinteriors.com.au. I absolutely loved shooting this campaign and it was awesome to work with such an inspiring team.

Tell us how you juggle working together with two kiddies in tow? What does your typical day look like?

Finding time is of the essence. I never expected such a great response from the industry along with my stockists taking my business to a place I never thought achievable in such a short space of time. And I thank them all for their incredible support.  Like most mums, I wish there was three of me so I can simply get through the days jobs!

My day starts at 6.30am with the dreaded wake up call, 7am if I’m lucky. Anything that starts with a seven in our household is a great start to the day. Then the negotiation begins for whose turn it is to get up and do brekkie with the kids. Then it’s a mad rush to get everyone fed and out of the house on a kindy day. With or without the kids my days are filled with returning emails, packing orders, talking to stockists, working on my social media and press, designing the next range and forever thinking about new concepts and area’s to grow the business. Then it’s feeding time in my household that comes with its fair share of mishaps, bath and then bed for my kids. Whilst my husband is reading books to the kiddies, I’m getting dinner ready with a glass of wine and laptop open until I go to sleep! No rest for the wicked.

What’s up next for Goosebumps?

On the success of this collection It’s A Jungle Out There we are taking it to Sydney Life In Style in February. I’m also currently working on a new collection that will launch later in the year along with a new direction for Goosebumps so you’ll have to stay tuned! The future looks bright just like our bedding does.

Show and Tell Item

My show and tell item is my kids! Even though they are at it all day I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t live without them and they are a constant source of inspiration and their awesome one-liners that make me laugh out loud all day! They drive me to work hard so we can all enjoy life’s pleasures. Love my little tigers. xoxoxo
