Acne is a bitch. While it tends to peak in those pesky, hormonal, adolescent years, we’re never really immune to a bit of an outbreak here and there. More often than not when we think of acne, we tend to think of it setting up camp on our face – but spare a thought for its partner in crime: the dreaded back acne. Often neglected because we generally don’t spend much time looking at our backs in the mirror, ‘bacne’ is a very real and very annoying thing, especially in summer. No one wants a pimply back in a swimsuit or backless dress. No one.
The very gorgeous (and as it happens, very helpful) Kendall Jenner has opened up about her earlier struggles with acne and what she did to kick it in the nuts. Her secret? Working with renowned Dermatologist, Christie Kidd. In a vid titled Skin Savvy: Body Acne on Kendall’s site, Christie gives a bit of simple advice to avoid back acne – and it’s a mistake we are all possibly making. The secret lies is in our hair-washing routine.
Christie explains: “Most of us, we wash our hair, we condition it, and when our conditioner is sitting, that’s when we wash our body, and then the last we do is rinse out our condition.” Yes Christie, yes we do. According to her, rinsing out our conditioner last allows all those oils from the conditioner; the ones that leave our locks soft and silky smooth, to seep in and clog the pores. The fix? A simple routine change: Wash hair first, apply conditioner and then rinse it all out. Next, pop your hair up in a clip and wash your body LAST so your freshly scrubbed skin stays that way. Makes sense really. Good one Christie, we’ll totally give this a shot.
