We’re mad for beauty stuff here at S+T, but we’re equally as enthusiastic about a good bargain. The truth of the matter is that there are some things you should absolutely fork out that hard-earned dosh for, but there are others that do an incredible job and won’t cost you the world. The proof is in the pudding and these gems are ones that I – and tonnes of people across the world – swear by. They won’t break the bank, but they’ll perform just as good as those super exxy products and some, even better.
So feast your eyes on (and take note of) our top nine beauty products that’ll leave you with enough change to grab a sneaky bottle of red (or two) on your way home…
Face Halo – $30 for 3:
I’m not sure what sorcery is involved in these little round discs, but they are MAGICAL, particularly if your skin reacts to traditional make-up remover or wipes. Face Halo needs nothing but water to remove your make up and the best bit is that you can chuck them in the wash and re-use them up to 200 times, so they’re super economical. They are perfect for those nights when you CBF taking off your make-up, but because you’re a grown-up, you know you’ve got to. All you need to do is dampen your face, wet the Halo and rub the day away. These are available in black and white, but I like the white ones because there’s something so satisfying about seeing all that gunk come off your face. Make sure you try this web-site for the best skincare products.
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Levre (Lip Balm) – $15.99:
I’ve long been a big fan of Lanolips, but I think this baby might just come in as my numero uno. It’s like legit skincare for your smackers. Perfect if you’ve got sensitive, dry, chapped lips that just don’t ever seem to recover from the elements, this tube delivers a mega hit of hydration that won’t have you reaching for it every hour. It’s thick and moisturising and formulated to repair your lips instead of just covering up the dryness and is also low on the shine and non-sticky so awesome for guys, gals, kids – everyone. 5000 thumbs up.
La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 – $15.99:
Another one from this French skincare fave, the Cicaplast Baume B5 is the great all-rounder. Use it anywhere your skin is red, irritated, flaky or dry (avoid the eye area) and it’ll be fixed in a jiffy. Peeps with rosacea, psoriasis, dermatitis and eczema sing its praises and it can be used on the hands, feet, bod, face; anywhere you need a shot of moisture that’ll deliver quick results. It’s non-irritating, paraben/fragrance/lanolin-free formula makes it suitable for everyone, even those with super sensitive skin like babies and kids. I like to pop a thin layer over my face after using Retinol at night to lock it all in and combat the dryness. I have a tube of this on me at all times.
The Ordinary 100% L-Abscorbic Acid Powder – $9.80:
Look, I could write a 50,000 word essay on The Ordinary skincare and how affordable/great/effective it is, but if I had to pick ONE product that has made the biggest difference to my skin – it’s this. L-Abscorbic Acid is basically Vitamin C and if you’re not using it on your skin, you’ve gotta get on it. Vitamin C delivers a hit of antioxidants to your skin and helps with stuff like uneven skin tone, signs of ageing, dullness and scarring. I use this daily and I swear, my skin is the clearest and brightest it has EVER been… and it’s practically free. The powder is super duper fine and can be mixed with your regular serum, moisturiser, oil, even water. It’s genius.
Le Tan Uber Glow Self Tan – $24.99:
Without fake tan on, I look like Casper’s much fairer sister. I’m as white as white can be and while you should love the skin you’re in, blah blah, I feel approximately 376 times better when my skin has a bit of colour to it. This self tanner is not only affordable, but SO easy to apply because it gives you plenty of play time to work it into the skin and the colour is LOVELY… not scary dark, but dark enough to make a glowy, Hawaiian vacay-style difference.
Cosrx Acne Pimple Master Patch (pack of 24) $5.00:
Seeing as NO ONE is immune to a pesky break-out, these little sticky joys are a must-have. They’re basically a clear patch (sort of like the ones you use on a coldsore to stop it from spreading) that you slap on over a zit, and while you sleep or go about your day, they go to work at drawing out and absorbing all the shit festering under your skin (ewwwww… but GROUSE!). They stop the bacteria from travelling anywhere else on your face, are virtually undetectable and come in three different sizes to cover the smallest to the holy shit-est sized zits.
Trilogy Pure Plant Body Oil – $27.99:
If you find your moisturiser just isn’t cutting the mustard on your dehydrated summer (or scaly winter) skin, consider adding some body oil to REALLY amp up the quench factor. This clever babe is a perfect blend of rosehip, apricot and almond oil and will hydrate your skin to baby’s bum status on it’s own, but if you’re not a fan of the feels of straight bod oil, mix some in with your moisturiser to really supercharge your skin. It’s not too oily and sinks into the skin beautifully, especially if used on slightly damp skin.
The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter – $25.00:
This is a cult fave for a reason. This little tub of magic is the bee’s knees at removing every single scrap of your make up, including waterproof mascara. Scoop out a small amount, rub it into your face and watch everything melt away, while leaving your skin non-irritated and smooth as silk. This is a game-changer and works WAY better than any make up remover I’ve ever used.
Avene Antirougeurs Fort Relief Concentrate – $41.99:
This is a recent discovery for me and has legit made a BIG difference to the redness I get on my cheeks and around my nose from those annoying broken capillaries. I use this as a spot treatment, just for the areas that really need it. It soothes the skin and is PERFECT if you suffer from conditions that cause redness like Rosacea. A little goes a long way, so this tube will last you yonks.
