Celebs always manage to look insanely beautiful on red carpets and mag covers, but I truly think so many of them look their best on their ‘off duty’ days. There’s no doubt the ladies in the limelight have picked up a tonne of tricks from years working with hair and make up artists, so when I went digging for some quick tips to perk up my look a little, I found a GOLDMINE of easy peasy tips we can all use on the daily to make us look a little more pulled together. And they all require practically zero effort and many utilise a ‘one product, two ways’ method that means you won’t have to fork out any cash on new products…
Hailey Baldwin’s cheat for perfect, ‘believable’ blush: The reported Mrs Bieber loves a fresh, healthy glow and swears by one little trick to take your blush from nanna-ish to glowy babe in a flash. “I think when you’re doing a sun-kissed, glowy type thing, you bring it (blush) across your nose and it makes it look like you actually got caught in the sun.” So basically, instead of just focusing on those cheeks, sweep your blush over the bridge of your nose to tie it all together. Easy!
Priyanka Chopra’s DIY lip scrub: Dry, flaky lips are the pits. When your lip balm isn’t cutting the mustard, it’s time to bring out the big guns and slough that skin off with a scrub. There are plenty of exxy ones on the market, but Priyanka and her luscious lips swear by an at-home brew of sea salt, vegetable glycerine and rose water to keep her lips in tip-top shape. An even easier option is to mix sugar with vegetable oil or coconut oil until it’s a thick, paste consistency and gently rub it on your lips. Remove with a damp face washer and follow up with a hydrating lip balm.
Ashley Graham on keeping her brows in place: The model and body positive advocate swears by this killer tip for keeping unruly brows on their best behaviour all day. “I use a little bit of Elnett (hairspray) and I spray it (on an eyebrow spoolie) and I brush up and these suckers don’t move.” Just an added bit of info here – if you use brow gel/powder/pencil, do that bit first and use the hairspray as a final touch.
Drew Barrymore’s 2-in-1 lipstick hack: Who doesn’t love multiple uses for one product? Actress and owner of Flower Beauty, Drew, says: “I always put a little bit of lipstick on my cheeks so there’s sort of a correlation of colour.” Bonus tip – If you’ve got oily skin or prefer a more matte finish, lightly dust over those cheeks with a bit of translucent powder (or hint of powder blush) to keep it from moving around. It’ll also give your cheek colour more staying power.
Rosie Huntington Whitely’s highlighting advice: Confused about exactly where to pop your highlighter? Rosie says: “I always apply my highlighter to the top of my cheekbones, a little bit under the brow, on the cupid’s bow and a little bit down the centre of my nose.” Rosie is bang-on with this, but if I can add my two cents worth – go easy with the highlighter on those upper cheekbones near the crow’s feet area if you’re a lady of a certain vintage (like me) who is conscious of making those lines more noticeable. Maybe skip the nose bit entirely if you’ve got oily skin and steer clear of the tip of the nose if you don’t want to look like Rudolf.
Kendall Jenner’s bronzer hack: Another one product/two ways tip, Kendall Jenner says – “I usually take my bronzer and do a bit of eyeshadow with it.” The bronzer’s earthy tone is universally flattering on all eye colours, but if you’ve got blue eyes this colour will make those peepers pop like no one’s business.
Jessica Chastain’s perfume secret: If you love your perfume but find it wears off too quickly, actress Jessica Chastain has the BEST fragrance tip ever. She suggests spritzing a cotton pad with perfume and then putting it in the centre of your bra. The heat from your body warms it up and will leave you smelling ace all day long. Game changing.
Zendaya’s sneaky highlighter substitute: No highlighter? No problem! Zendaya swears by using eyeshadow as highlighter. Just choose a glowy/shimmery shadow that suits your skin tone (steer clear of a formula that’s too chunky with big glitter particles) and dust on where you’d ordinarily pop your highlighter.
Kylie Jenner’s foundation tip: I live by this rule for flawless foundation – “I do my foundation after eyeshadow; eyeshadow falls down and then your face isn’t cute anymore.” This is KEY if you’re doing a smokey eye, ‘cos you don’t want to undo all that skin work by having to clean up shadow fall-down. Just do those eyes first, then focus on skin.
Told ya. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
