2016 has most definitely been the year of the brow. Everywhere you turn, women have been frantically growing out their eyebrows just like we did in the 80’s (before we plucked them all off in the 90’s) in an attempt to get some of that Brooke Shields-style fullness. Like all comeback moments, there’s a slight tweak on the original and the modern eyebrow is much more sculpted as opposed to the hairy free-for-all favoured in the 80’s. A beautifully arched brow is where it’s at, but getting the ‘fullness’ isn’t as easy as when we were teenagers.
While there are plenty of dedicated eyebrow salons that can whip our caterpillars into tip top shape and leave us with gloriously full brows, the truth of the matter is that if they’re sparse, they’ll require a certain level of upkeep at home. For the girl who doesn’t have time to spend precious morning minutes filling and shaping her brows with pencils and powders and waxes, there’s a fab little product that will make your brows look way fuller in a matter of seconds. Even if the 90’s were unkind to you.
Benefit Gimme Brow is somewhat of a cult product loved by those of us who are follicley challenged in the eyebrow department. It’s basically a tinted gel that you apply directly to your eyebrows in short strokes with the tiniest mascara wand you’ve ever seen. The gel contains little fibres that grab on to your existing eyebrow hairs and seriously makes them look thicker and fuller in NO time by filling in those pesky gaps. It’s buildable and comes in Light, Medium and Deep. Pair it with pencil or powder when you’ve got the time to spend on getting seriously wow-brows, however this is brilliant for daily use as it’s quick and really makes a difference.
In a random stroke of luck, I recently stumbled upon a product that’s virtually identical to Gimme Brow but will set you back less cash than a fancy coffee. I PROMISE I’m not exaggerating. Now, I’ve used Gimme Brow – I love it and I highly recommend it – BUT if you’re looking to save a bit of cashola or just want a freakin’ awesome product for peanuts, then Essence’s Make Me Brow is where it’s at. While the Make Me Brow blonde is a little more neutral-toned than Benefit’s super cool ash base (but very close), Make Me Brow appears to have more visible fibres in it. More fibres = extra volume = PERFECT, FULL EYEBROWS. Cheap cheap eyebrow heaven.
