There’s nothing more annoying than when you get your make up looking F.I.N.E for a big night out, only to have it disappear before your night is over. You know the drill; while you’ve been busy drinking/eating/dancing, your make up has been hard at work going about its business of slipping off your face. Before you know it, you’re checking your reflection in the mirror thinking, WHERE DID IT ALL GO???
There’s tonnes of setting sprays on the market that promise to lock your handiwork in and keep it going longer than all six series of Orange Is The New Black, but this bathroom fave does the trick better than all the pricey ones put together.
Hairspray. Before you scoff, hear me out. It’s not intended for everyday use, only for big events when you really need that face to stay in place ALL DAY LONG, like weddings, special events, whatever – and it works like a charm. Apparently, it’s a hack that’s commonly used backstage at fashion shows, on Drag make up and dance performances.
Look, it’s not ideal, but I rationalise this as just a teensy step further than all the hairspray that gets in your face when you’re going to town on your hair. Of course, you need to be careful when doing this, so make sure your peepers are closed tight and you’re holding your breath. Keep the can a good distance from your face and spray lightly all over once your make up is how you want it. If you’re not keen on spraying directly onto your face, you can try spraying it into the air, closing your eyes and allowing the mist to fall onto your face. Sort of like walking into perfume.
I’ve tried this myself and it absolutely works. Once I’ve sprayed, I literally run into the other room before I inhale again, and then I’m good to go. It feels a little sticky at first, but nothing too uncomfortable. It’s not for everyone and if you suffer from dry skin, prepare for this to dry it out a little more. But for those of you with a special day coming up and you’re keen to have your make up bulletproof, this could be worth a shot.
Speaking of hairspray, the vid below has three awesome hack that you’ve probably never thought to use with a good old can of Elnett…
