Remember when you were in high school and your face was a total oil slick that people said would one day disappear? Me too. And as my teenage self suspected, they were they wrong. For the most part I still have the skin of a 15-year-old that requires blotting several times a day and a heavy reliance on my handbags powder stash.
The desperate need to control the shine on my face over the years has lead to a love of the all matte makeup look, so I’m going to proclaim myself a little bit of an expert in this area. If you have a face that gets practically reflective by the end of the day, problems with large pores or just appreciate the prettiness of makeup that doesn’t glow like a disco ball, I’ve got your back!
Today I’m going to put to use my years of matte makeup knowledge and share my top matte makeup picks with you. These products are all items that I use regularly and in most cases have repurchased several times so they are well and truly tried and tested!
Maybelline Fit Me Matte+Poreless Foundation – I was a long time fan of the original formula but this one is a little smoother and more mattifying while still having the same lightweight and natural finish the original did.
Rimmel Stay Matte Primer – This is definitely my most used primer. It creates a nice even canvas for foundation and really helps with the longevity of makeup.
Rimmel Stay Matte Powder – I think I’ve gone through about 10 of these. It’s a non cakey powder that keeps makeup in place all day with a little added colour – I use the shade Silky Beige.
NYX HD Finishing Powder – I was a bit hesitant to try this one because I don’t usually use translucent powders but it is super mattifying so it is going to be perfect in the summer time and for when my t-zone needs to be shine free for hours.
NARS Dolce Vita Blush – This is one of the first beauty products I blogged about and it’s still a major love of mine. It’s a gorgeous colour and has a super long lasting formula. The pigmentation is perfect for building up so you can go for whatever kind of blush look you like.
MAC Gingerly Blush – Another long lasting blush in a beautiful gingery/terracotta colour.
Makeup Geek Matte Shadows – These shadows are a little powdery but so so pigmented, easy to blend and they come in an amazing range of shades.
Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette – The Naked Basics Palette is definitely my most reached for eye palette. Beautiful quality shadows in easy to wear everyday colours.
Too Faced Natural Matte Palette – Too Faced makes beautiful quality shadows and I love this palette because it has great shades that you can mix and match for different looks. My fave shade is strapless.
NYX Matte Lipsticks – These lipsticks are super matte and super pigmented. I’ve loved these for a few years now for a bold long lasting matte finish, but they can be a tad drying.
Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks – So creamy and so matte. This range is perfect if you don’t want to compromise comfort for a matte lip look. Touch of Spice is my perfect shade.
