There is a RIGHT way to wash you hair. Who knew?

So, if you thought that whacking on a bit of Herbal Essences, lathering and rinsing was the only way to shampoo those locks, think again. Apparently there’s a “right” way to wash your hair.

As a general rule, the less you can get away with sudsing up your mane the better, but the difference from person to person varies greatly. Feel free to call me feral, but I only wash my hair once a week, twice at the absolute maximum. My blonde and naturally curly locks feel (and often look) more like straw from Old MacDonald’s farm than a Pantene commercial so I find that the more I wash, the more dry and coarse it gets; so even at once a week, my hair rarely looks oily.

The recommended way to wash? According to the hair gods, we’ve gotta pull double duty and wash those locks twice, especially if you’re a hair-pig like me. All those goodies like oil, dirt, dry shampoo and hairspray build up on your scalp and in your hair, so it takes a bit of extra attention to wash it all away.

THIS is the holy grail on blonde shampoos!

Sometimes, when I’m feeling REALLY reckless, I’ll even go a third shampoo. If  you’re a blondie like me, I HIGHLY recommend the Fudge Blonde Shampoo – this stuff is the bomb.  I do my first shampoo with a hydrating formula, really getting into that scalp area and giving it a good (but gentle) scrub. Secondly, I go in with the Fudge one (and leave in for 5 mins) to combat brassiness and when I go for thirds, I use my kids’ shampoo (Gaia Baby Shampoo), which leaves my hair feeling much smoother than normal shampoo.

After all that washing, your hair will be crying out for some conditioner, so slap it on (show those ends some extra love) and let it sit for as long as you can.
Clean, beautiful and fresh hair. Done!
