Childbirth is no mean feat. Pushing a WHOLE OTHER HUMAN through a comparatively small opening is amazing and wondrous and all that good stuff, but I’d estimate that for a large portion of us, it sits on the higher end of the anxiety scale.
But imagine this…. You’re in labour. You’re panting and puffing and the wave of contraction pains are getting increasingly intense. You feel that feeling of the most intense pressure (if you’ve ever given birth vaginally, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about) and then – the unmistakable, overwhelming urge to push. It’s GO time. Baby is a-comin’.
But instead of being in a delivery suite surrounded by doctors, or in a birthing pool with a midwife and doula by your side, you’re IN THE CAR ON THE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL. You’re bent over the front passenger seat with an audience of your (confused/excited/terrified) kids in the back while your husband goes next level with the multi tasking as he drives AND films the very fast birth of your fifth baby. A little girl.
This is exactly what happened to the Swinney family while on their way to the hospital to welcome their newest arrival – and the video is beautiful and insane all at once. Have a look….
So yesterday my wife deliver our 5th child in the passenger seat of our car. Still shook! pic.twitter.com/cTBhSulYnZ

Taking to Instagram, the newly-crowned mama and superwoman said, “There was something beyond special, about getting to deliver my own baby. No doctors or nurses, no lights, or busy people, no one interrupting a moment that should be the most special moments for families as they bring life into the world. The pain was there, but the joy and peace that followed in those minutes we got to spend alone with our sweet girl was more rewarding than anything I could have asked for.”
“People are shocked and often apologize that I didn’t make it to the hospital. They don’t understand that I just experience something unrivaled to anything I could have imagined. I witnessed my body take over and a baby be born into my hands. My body is not swollen, and I have no tears. I had my husband and children around me, and for 5 minutes, we embraced everything that happened without any interruption… It was crazy. But it was amazing.”
Congrats to the Swinney clan. This is one seriously cute family….
