Expectant mum Lauren Walker has shared her two and a half year struggle to fall pregnant in a powerful social media post.

Lauren and her husband Garyt struggled for 953 days to get pregnant, went through 452 needles, two rounds of IVF, three failed transfers and one corrective surgery.

The couple announced their baby news with a picture of the 452 needles Lauren used while going through IVF, arranged in a circle around two tiny baby onesies. 16603049_10103160080789815_950750185144116332_n

This is something I can relate to all too well. My little lady was brought into the world thanks to IVF and my story is not dis-similar to Lauren’s. I couldn’t even count how many needles I went through, how many tears were shed and how many foreign objects were put in places I didn’t know was humanely possible! But every bit of it is worth it for this exact moment. The moment the dream and hope of having a child becomes a reality – and you can share it with the world! And what a perfect way for Lauren and Garyt to share their news.

This is what Lauren had to say next to the powerful image:

“We are overwhelmed with joy to finally announce that we are expecting boy/girl TWINS! We thought about how to announce our two miracles to the world. Everything we could think of fell short of doing them justice. Doing ourselves justice, for every trial and tribulation we have been through these past years,” she wrote.

“Taking out these needles by the handful to take this photograph was… surreal,” Lauren said. “Not because I was sad about what it took to get here, but because it was a representation of my world, our world, for the past over two and a half years staring back at me. There was a lot of pain, hope and fear behind each of these needles.”

There was a lot of pain, hope and fear behind each of these needles.

Lauren also described her heartbreak at losing embryo after embryo, five in total. “Coming so far only to miscarry. Getting to where all the hope, the money, all of what could have been your children were gone. The End. Feeling broken and empty physically, emotionally, and above all, spiritually.”

Now, they eagerly await the arrival of their babies who they plan to name Duke and Diana in August and say it was “worth the wait…and wait, and wait, and wait”.

Lauren ended her post by saying what any couple going through IVF will relate to and that is that they “would do this “2,000 times over and over, again and again” and can’t wait to meet their twins.

Babies are such a miracle. Our bodies (and science!) really are incredible. And these babies will be be able to look back at this image and know just how much they were wanted.
