As a kid is there anything better than your birthday rolling around each year? And the PRESENTS? Hell, even as as adult, I still make the most of mine.
I was blown away by the generosity of my friends and family for my daughter’s first birthday. The presents she received were out of control, I actually felt really guilty about it. Because let’s be honest, we all know most one year-old play with toys for about 38 seconds before they move on to the next thing. Kids rip through present after present in a trance like state.
TV host and author Sally Obermeder has a great idea to help her daughter, Annabelle, appreciate the presents she receives on her birthday. This year she turned five and Sally had a new rule. Annabelle wasn’t allowed to open all her gifts at once, but one every few days and only once she has written a thank you note for the previous one she has opened.
“It’s her first party ever so I don’t want to be a killjoy, but feel I need to manage the very generous gift giving,” Sally said on her Instsagram page. Most of her followers thought it was a top idea, but some people did think she was taking things too far.
I LOVE it. I think it’s a great was to teach your child about gratitude.
What do you think?
