Us girls fall into two camps, those that love an over the top romantic gesture and those of us who it makes squirm uncomfortably. I’m defo in the second catergory. I once had a boyfriend cook a romantic dinner, fill the house with rose petals and surprise me with a mixed tape of romantic songs. Some of my friends would have been booking the church while I might have vomed a little in my mouth. I know I’m terrible right? I just get super uncomfortable if something feels like an overt display of romance.
That’s not to say I don’t like romance, but to me I prefer it a little less over the top. Like someone who squeezes your hand without a word when they know you are having a tough moment or who never forgets your fave restaurant and what you like to order on Ubereats.
Adele’s man pulled off the romantic gesture of the century and even the cynical (yes me) have to admit it was pretty amazing. Simon Konecki wrote love notes on pieces of pink confetti that cascaded onto the stage as Adele’s show finished. It was their fifth anniversary and since Adele was on tour in Nashville, Simon thought he would surprise the singer whose playlist is usually made up of heartbreak.
Adele normally ends each concert of her current tour by dropping white confetti on the audience, featuring handwritten lyrics from her many hit songs, like Rolling in the Deep and Hello. The pink confetti organised by Simon had notes handwritten such as, ‘I love you’, ‘Love you longtime’, ‘You are an angel’ and, ‘Happy anniversary’.
“It’s pink tonight, look at that,” Adele can be heard saying on a fan’s video of the performance, “this confetti is normally white.” Simon and Adele have a four-year-old son Angelo together and she has talked on stage about possibly trying for a second bubba once the tour is over.
Props to Simon for pulling off one spectacular romantic gesture, okay I’ll admit it’s pretty damn sweet.
What’s the most romantic thing someone has done for you?
