To chop or not to chop? I think CHOP!!!
I’ve had some seriously BAD haircuts in my time. My mum gave me a wispy fringe until I was about 12. No idea why, she thought it looked cute but it looked bloody ridic.
Then when I was about 16 I decided I wanted to get a super short chop like Gwyneth Paltrow had at the time. I booked into a random hairdresser, rode my bike to the salon and they chopped all my long hair off. It looked SHOCKING! I was so embarrassed and insecure about it. I remember my friends trying to hide their gasps when they saw me. It was way to short to put up so I would use literally 53 bobby pins to try and make it look like an ‘up’ do. It’s a hair time I like to try and forget. My dear friends like to bring it up just to remind me though, they are lovely like that.
About 18 months ago I got the hair itches again. I wanted a new look. I was feeling hagged after baby number two and my hair was long and boring and I would just whack it up all the time because wearing it down gave me the shits and it would get so oily and foul.
Then I bloody did it. I got over my hair cutting phobia and went the chop. I got a lob and I bloody LOVED it. The volume, oh the delicious volume, I could now get in my locks was so liberating.
I look back on photos of my long hair now and wish I had done it years earlier. Some people say short hair is harder but I don’t think so. I just dry it off, sometimes straighten the ends, pop some texture powder in it and dry shampoo it up. It is so quick and easy and I wear it down way more than when it was long.
To anyone flirting with the chop, DO IT! Just don’t go the Gwyn, go the Khloe Kardashian to start with.
