We are constantly being bombarded with studies about what we need to do in our relationship to keep it on track. Every week there is a new ‘secret’ to a happy relationship – communicate more, don’t hold grudges, make compromises, listen more, have sex more often and the list goes on…and on…and on…and…
But finally – a study after my own heart! A report has just been released that says a couple that drinks together stays together! Yep, you heard right. Science says that a couple’s drinking habits could very well be linked to their long-term happiness – and not just because they’re in a constant state of tipsy, although, I am sure that could have something to do with it.
The University of Michigan study (which ran the study over a ten year period) found that a similar attitude toward drinking reflects other lifestyle similarities and provides a point of connection in and of itself, says study author Kira Birditt. “We’re not sure why this is happening, but it could be that couples that do more leisure time activities together have better marital quality and share more interests in general,” she says.
My partner and I certainly like to have a wine or 487 and if this is going to help our relationship then we would be crazy not to partake.
Now, excuse me, I have to leave work early to pop by the bottle shop. B xx
