Parenting, What's On Our Mind

The reality of parenting your first child vs. your second…

My first born Raff, 4, is clean, gentle, full of fear, rule following, sensitive and incredibly particular about everything. My second born, Jarvie, 1, is a bull at a gate, fearless, wild, full of tantrums and cries at the drop of a hat.

I often wonder if they are so different due to the way I have parented them, which if I’m being honest is pretty different.

When I think back to the first time Raff was shipped off to a babysitter…(mind you, he was one and it was for two hours) I remember being riddled with anxiety about all the things I needed to make sure his babysitter knew. Things like, how he liked his cheese cut up, what shape his sandwich was cut in, what song to sing before he goes to bed…blah blah blah. When it came to Jarvie, I basically threw him at the babysitter and said ‘call me if you have any questions.’

I was a way more by the book and paranoid with my first son and with my second I am so relaxed I’m almost asleep.

This video TOTALLY sums up the difference in parenting baby number one compared with the babies that follow. This is downright brilliant and something all of us mum’s can relate to.

Were you like this with your kids?

Thanks Bunmi Laditan for your hilarious vid.
