Since when did nude selfies become the rage?

The celebrity nude photo hack has got me thinking, since when did it become so normal to take raunchy naked photos of yourself?

If you haven’t looked at the internet in the last 48 hours and you don’t know what I am talking about, here’s what happened:

On Monday – or Sunday US time – a number of naked photos of celebrities found their way onto the internet. And when I say ‘found their way’ I mean, what now appears to be a group of hackers, worked long and hard to get them out there.

As many as 60 nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence made it onto the web, as well as images of other superstars, including Kate Upton, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Lea Michelle, Teresa Palmer and Kirsten Dunst.

It seems that the images were obtained through a flaw in Apple’s iCloud storage system and the lead hacker claims to have naked images of up to 101 celebrities.

The images have now been taken off the web and publishing them is a criminal offence.

While this whole scandal is a horrifying invasion of privacy, I’m not going to lie, some of these photos did find their way into my hands and my curiosity got the better of me!

Some of the photos were pretty graphic and I felt very guilty having a sticky beak.

One thing that really shocked me, apart from this happening in the first place, was the amount of nude selfies these women had taken.

Is this a thing now? And how did I completely miss the boat?

So, I asked my girlfriends, and most of them said they have sent at least a semi-nude photo to their boyfriends before.

I responded with both shock and awe at the clear sexy confidence that my ladies possess! I mean, I had never thought of myself as a prude, but maybe I am; I’ve never taken a nude selfie.

If I think about it, it actually sounds like a really liberating activity. What better way to express confidence and acceptance of your body than by photographing it in it’s full naked glory?

Obviously all of this needs to be done with care! I’m not condoning saving hundreds of naked photos to your desktop or sending them out willy-nilly, that kind of behaviour just never ends well.

MAYBE I’ll even do it just to see if I have the nerve. Just for me of-course. And I won’t save it to the iCloud. Maybe I’ll even use a good old fashioned camera.

Would you ever take a naked selfie?
