Sometimes when I’m with my kids, I feel like an imposter – like I’m just pretending to be a mum, because on the inside, I seriously feel like I’m still about 16 years old. If I’m thinking that at 36, I wonder if that feeling remains the same at 86?
Check out these incredible pictures by photographer Tom Hussey from his collection called Mirrors, a series that depicts elderly people looking at reflections of their younger selves. Tom says he came up with the concept when talking to an 80-year-old World War II veteran who “commented that he didn’t understand how he could be 80 years old as he felt he was still a young man. He just didn’t feel it was possible he could be 80 years old,” Tom said.
I have stared at these pictures way longer than I should and am torn between finding them stunningly beautiful and heartbreakingly sad. What do you think?
Do you feel your age?
