I don’t remember the last time I left the house without lipstick, or at the very minimum, a tinted gloss. It sounds superficial, I know, but I just can’t face the day without some form of make-up on my face. It gives me a spring in my step when I’m feeling flat and when everything else feels like it doesn’t look good, I know I can work my face to give me a bit of confidence.
I envy women who are comfortable to pop down to the shops make-up free, but that’s just not me. The days where I have no where to go, and I resign myself to staying in my pjs without a scrap of make up on inevitably wind up being my flattest days.
Make up makes me feel good. It makes me feel like I have a bit of control over something in my life when the rest of it feels like it’s out of my hands. It gives me a spring in my step and that bit of colour, trite as it may sound, makes me feel like I can take on the world.
And when I wear red lippy? Then look out, I am a force to be reckoned with.
