My mornings are generally a bit of a s**t fight and getting us all out the door on time often feels like time trials for the Olympics. Feel free to call me vain, but I don’t like leaving the house sans make up. A little something on my face makes me feel more pulled together, even when I’m anything but.
So, here are my tips for looking polished in eight minutes flat – because five minutes is unrealistic and ten is a bit of a stretch when you have beds to make, breakfast to serve and bums to wipe. Or you like to hit Snooze 4,568 times. PLUS, I timed it. With a stop-watch. Promise.
Follow my easy-peasy steps and let’s see if we can’t get you stopping traffic and using your handbag to fight off compliments all day long.
SKIN – Skin is key, repeat, KEY. If you nail the skin bit, the battle is 80% won. I would hazard a guess that most women like a little something on their skin, even if it’s just to get it looking more even. If you only need light coverage, try a multi-tasker like Olay Total Effects Touch of Foundation or Estee Lauder Day Wear Sheer Tint. If you need a little more coverage, pop on your regular foundation. Go light with it and use concealer on any spots the foundation has not covered.
EYES – If you chose eyes, congratulations – products that are swipe-and-go are everywhere. For a deep, buildable shade, I like Bobbi Brown Long Wear Cream Shadow in Bronze Sugar. Dab it onto the mobile lid (the bit that moves when you blink) with your fingers and blend it up towards the socket (this is generally the mid-way point of your eye). A lighter option would be Covergirl Intense Shadowblast in Beige Blaze. Both products can be further intensified with shadow if you have the time. I didn’t, so let’s continue….
Apply a few coats of your fave mascara – I fancy a waterproof formulation for the bottom lashes. If you like a bit of smokiness, line your waterline with a bronzy shade of eyeliner like MAC Powersurge – It’s not as harsh as black, but still gives some definition so your eyes look more ‘done’.
CHEEKS – A flush of colour on your cheeks is so flattering. Go for a stain like Benefit BeneTint or even work some of your fave lippy onto your cheeks. Blend well please.
Grab a brush and make like the wind with a quick dusting of powder over the t-zone (forehead, nose and chin). Leave the rest of the skin dewy, unless you prefer a more matte look to which I’d say, go to town all over.
LIPS – If you’ve played up the eyes, a quick swipe of netural gloss such as Napoleon Perdis Lip Veil in Naked Truth is perfect. For more of a statement lip, try a L’oreal Shine Caresse Lipstick in Juliet for juicy glossiness with great colour pay off.
If you have the luxury of a full ten minutes to play with, feel free to add some highlighter to the tops of your cheekbones or smudge a little of the eye liner onto your bottom lash line.
You’re done!! How did you go? Did you love the eight minute face or did you beat my world-record time and complete it in seven?
Let us know……..I’m very competitive.
