Do you love or hate celebrating your birthday?

When it comes to birthdays, you usually sit on one side of the fence. You are either bang up for a big celebration or prefer to let the day just slide by.

Miranda Kerr turned 33 yesterday and she clearly loves a good birthday celebration. She posted a series of Snapchat pics to her Instagram celebrating the occasion. She also gifted her fans with 20 percent off her cosmetics line Kora as her birthday pressie to them.

We’re sure Miranda is being spoilt rotten for her birthday by her billionaire boyfriend and Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel. Lucky girl…

I definitely fall in the ‘let’s forget it’s my birthday’ camp, especially as this year I turn 40. Eeeek!!! Where the fuck did that come from? I celebrated my birthday every year until I was 30. It was when I turned the big THREE-OH that it hit me like a tonne of bricks that I was nowhere near where I thought I would be by that age. I had grown up having 30 as the age I would have all my shit together. I dreamt I would have a perfect house, an amazing husband, beautiful 2.5 kids and the job of my dreams. In reality I was single, no children, renting and had just finished university for a second time and was unemployed. Hip hip.

On my 30th birthday I took a flight to Darwin where my brother lived and hid out for the week. Cowardly yes, but I made it through. I must admit I feel less scared about turning 40 than I did 30. I certainly don’t have it all together but I feel incredibly lucky to have what I do now including my two beautiful daughters.

I’m still not up for a big bash but I may keep my Facebook birthday notification on this year.
