This two minutes of television could be marked as some of the best I have seen. There is no doubt that President Obama and Ellen have both done incredible things for the gay community, and not just in the US but also around the world. President Obama’s work has had an incredible impact on the gay, lesbian and bisexual community. And…Ellen has been even more powerful in her ability to be authentic and real. Together they have opened the door for so many people to be there true self.
Obama sat down with Ellen and at first Ellen was thanking Obama, and he was having trouble accepting her compliment. He quickly turned the tables on Ellen by saying “As much as we’ve done with laws and ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, et cetera, changing hearts and minds, I don’t think anyone has been more influential than you on that. You’re just really likeable…you being willing to claim who you were suddenly empowers other people.”
Ellen was left speechless for a few seconds, until she replied with “I’m not really gay” as the crowd began laughing. “I just thought it would work…and I’ve had to stick with it because people responded well.”
