How good was 1990?
If you are old enough to remember, you’ll know what a big year it was for many reasons. It was the year of the bike short, of neon colours and babydoll dresses. We were blowing all our pocket money on Cassingles and listening to Roxette, Milli Vanilli and Technotronic on our Walkmans.
TV was all about Beverly Hills 90210, Blossom and Twin Peaks and some of the best movies EVER were released in 1990. Goodfellas, Misery and Flatliners for the grown-ups and if you were around the age of 11 as I was, you’d remember 1990 for Home Alone, Mermaids, and Edward Scissorhands.
But I can’t help but pull out the Kanye card right now and say to all the films of that year, “Imma let you finish, but Pretty Woman is the BEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME!” Or at least of 1990.
Yep, this year Pretty Woman celebrates its 25th Anniversary (so does Ghost, which made 1990 possibly the best year in the history of the world). I loved Pretty Woman so much that I had my deb dress made as a replica of the red dress Vivian wore to the opera. What a loser.
The stars of the movie reunited on the Today show in America and the main cast were all there – Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Laura San Giacomo (Kit), Hector Elizondo (Mr Thompson) and the director, Garry Marshall. I’m not sure where George Costanza was, but he was sorely missed.
The Today show aired part one of the reunion today, so pour yourself a glass of red (or tea) and try to contain your excitement.
Stay tuned for the rest of the Pretty Woman reunion special – we will post them as soon as we can get our grubby little hands on them.
Happy Weekend xx
